Marrakesh, Casablanca, Tangier, Fes, the Atlas Mountains, the list is long on romance, culture, and history. Bazaars, medinas, riads, bubbly pipes and yes, excellent beaches make Morocco a wonderful starting point for an African adventure. Traditions and folk art remain very much alive in Morocco. Civilization in Morocco goes back to prehistoric times – thirty centuries that have included Roman, Berber and Arab cultures. This rich past has left impressive ruins at Larache, Lixus, Cotta, Banasa or Volubilis and some surprising cave dwellings at Tarraga, Merkala, Taourirt, Erfoud and the most impressive Foum El Hassan. |
Packed with architecture, art, history, sciences and much more, a visit to any of Morocco's museums is guaranteed to widen your horizons. The Museum of Antiquities features a wide variety of objects and artifacts, including beautiful mosaics and bronze statues. The American Legation Museum has on display beautiful examples of art from the 17th century right through to present day. The Museum of Moroccan Arts displays a collection of unique artworks from many different cities and towns throughout Morocco. The city of Tetouan’s Archaeological Museum features a number of exhibits which are dedicated to the pre-historic and pre-Islamic period of Morocco’s history.
